Competitions

What are competitions like?

At competitions, you compete against others in your chosen events. There are over 50 events you can choose to compete in over various categories like Business, Entreprenuership, Finance, Hospitality, Tourism, Management, and Marketing. Some events are also available in teams of two or three if you’d like to have a friend join you!

For each events, you complete two roleplay scenes in front of a DECA judge, and take a 100 question multiple-choice test in the category of your event. Each role play is scored out of 100 points, giving you a maximum of 300 points total to be earned. You can earn individual medals for scoring in the top of each individual role play or the test itself, but the main goal is to place the highest overall combined in all categories. The higher score overall, the more likely you are to qualify for SCDC or ICDC!

DECA hosts three levels of competition every year. First is the District Career Development Conference, then the State Career Development Conference (SCDC), and finally the International Career Development Conference (ICDC).

District Career Development Conference:

There are 6 districts of DECA in Wisconsin. North is a part of District 1, which is hosted by University of Wisconsin – Stout in Menomonie. This year, Districts is on January 11th, 2025. A few of the schools we compete against at Districts are Altoona, Chippewa Falls, Hudson, Eau Claire Memorial, Hudson, La Crosse, Menomonie, and Superior. At this competition, if you place top 3 in your chosen event, you qualify for State!

State Career Development Conference (SCDC):

The Wisconsin State Career Development Conference is hosted by the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva. This year, State is February 24th – February 26th, 2025. The state competition is 3 days filled with competitions, activities, and fun! You can get merch from sponsors of DECA, participate in the DECA dance, and hang out with new friends from all over the state. You compete in the same event you qualified for at Districts, but in addition to your event, you also have the option to complete a project, giving you double the chances to qualify for ICDC. If you place top 7 in your event, earning you some DECA glass at State, you qualify for Internationals!

International Career Development Conference (ICDC):

The International Career Development Conference rotates between 3 locations:

  • Orlando, Florida
  • Atlanta, Georgia
  • Anaheim, California

ICDC is attended by more than 10,000 DECA members who are ready to compete in their event at the highest level! This year, ICDC is April 26th – April 29th, 2025, in Orlando. In Orlando, ICDC is hosted at the Orange County Convention Center. The International competition is 4 days packed full of competitions, activities, events, and fun! You get to connect with future scholarships, college, and career opportunities, and get the chance to compete in front of business professionals and demonstrate the college and career skills you learned through DECA. Everyone is there for the same thing, to have fun and earn that DECA glass!
